Boy Scout Leader
I too have fond memories of Mr Vera as a Scout Leader. One story about him that I still like to tell is that once he was leader a group of scouts on a hike in the early fall. A pheasant flew up nearby and he playfully followed it with his finger like a gun. Then he "shot" it and it fell! When they went to investigate, the pheasant had flown into a guy wire supporting a utility pole and broke it's neck.
He was always fun to be around, yet serious about the things that mattered. I know that long after I left scouts and moved from the area, he continued to be active in scouting and other organizations, making a real contribution to the community in which he lived.
