Florence Jane Wills, of Lansdale, formerly of Camden, NJ and Philadelphia, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022, in The Community at Rockhill, West Rockhill Township. She was 93.
Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. and Ernestine (Linderman) Wills.
Florence was a graduate of Philadelphia High School for Girls. She received her nursing diploma from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia. She later earned a public health nursing certificate, a Bachelor of Nursing Education degree, and a Master of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.
Florence began her professional career as a staff nurse for the Philadelphia Visiting Nurse Association; she would later serve as a supervisor for all visiting nurses in Philadelphia. Miss Wills would next be employed as the mental health consultant to the visiting nurse association in Camden County, NJ.
From 1969-1974, Miss Wills was the executive director of the Community Health and Nursing Service of Greater Camden County before joining the Public Health Nursing Service of Lehigh County, based in Allentown, as executive director.
Miss Wills also worked as a mental health nurse coordinator and consultant at the Ancora State Hospital in New Jersey and as a psychiatric mental health instructor at Temple University School of Nursing.
From 1977 until her retirement in 1990, Miss Wills was employed as an assistant professor of nursing, specifically to teach courses in psychiatric nursing, at East Stroudsburg University.
She is survived by several friends, most particularly, her long-term caregiver, Ethel Brownlee.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, at 10 a.m. in Green Lawn Cemetery, Sumneytown Pike and Allentown Road, Lansdale, PA 19446.
