John Ernest Wetzel

March 7, 1927 — November 16, 2008

John Ernest Wetzel, 81, of Souderton, formerly of Sellersville, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, November 16, in the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Township. He was the beloved husband of Marjorie (Weikel) Wetzel, Sellersville. They were married 60 years.

Born in Spinnerstown, he was the son of the late Robert F., Sr. and Lucretia (Jury) Wetzel.

Mr. Wetzel was a US Army veteran, having served in the 5th Infantry Regiment in the European Theater during World War II.

He was employed as a machinist for 33 years with the US Gauge Division, Ametek, Inc., Sellersville, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie. He also was a member of the International Association of Machinists, Lodge 1092.

Mr. Wetzel had a passion for genealogy, leading him to research and document his family tree back to the 1700’s. He also enjoyed reading and history.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gerald R. Wetzel and his wife, Susan, Lakeland, Florida; a daughter, Anne W. Reustle and her husband, Michael, Hilltown Township; and two sisters, Pauline Bleam, Spinnerstown, and Bertha Heidler, Allentown. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wilmer Wetzel and Robert F. Wetzel, Jr.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday afternoon, November 22 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Rockhill Mennonite Community, 3250 State Road, Sellersville, PA 18960. Interment in St. Andrew’s Union Cemetery, Perkasie will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
