Hiram B. Wenhold, a long-time resident of Sellersville, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Pauline (Schnure) Wenhold for 60 years until her death in 2007. He was 88.
Born in Perkasie, he was the son of the late Hiram B. and Nellie Mae (Bright) Wenhold.
Mr. Wenhold was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II.
Hiram had been self-employed for over 30 years as a plumbing and heating contractor. He later worked as a mail room supervisor at Bucks County Bank/Independence Bancorp, of Perkasie. He retired in 2008 from Giant, formerly Clemens Market, of Perkasie.
Mr. Wenhold was a life-time member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie, where he had served for over 50 years as an usher. He had also served on the Cemetery Committee and the Kitchen Committee. Hiram had also been a co-chairman of the Fellowship Hall Building Committee and the Sanctuary Renovation Committee. He had also been the church representative to the Board of the Lutheran Community at Telford.
Hiram was a 69 year member of the Hartzell-Crouthamel Post 280 American Legion, Perkasie, where he had served as a past commander and adjutant. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 1539, of Sellersville and the Branch Valley Fish, Game and Forestry Association, of Perkasie, where he had served as a secretary.
For many years, Mr. Wenhold had also worked the election polls in Sellersville, retiring in 2012.
A sports fan, Hiram enjoyed watching NASCAR, the Phillies and Eagles. He also delighted in being the official family photographer, taking countless photos at reunions and other family gatherings. He most loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Wenhold is survived by his three children: Barry L. Wenhold; Cheryl L. Cassel, and her husband, Ralph W.; and Brian K. Wenhold, all of Sellersville; five grandchildren: Leigh Anne Wenhold, of Palmerton; Tami L. Barndt, of Rydal; Chad M. Bishop and his wife, Jennifer, of Trumbauersville; Matthew S. Renner, and his wife, Laura, and Jeremy S. Bishop, all of Sellersville; five great-grandchildren: Victoria J. Wenhold; Braden Bishop; Ava Renner; Emily Barndt; and Zoe Renner; two brothers: Jacob Wenhold and his wife, Marie; Robert “Whitey” Wenhold and his wife, Bonnie; and a sister, Patricia Hendricks and her husband, Darwin, all of Perkasie.
He is also survived by four step-grandchildren: Ralph R. Cassel; Robert W. Cassel and his wife, Rachel; Alyson Faga and her husband, Dan; Jason Nelson; and two step-great-grandchildren: Carmondy Cassel and Rosamonde Cassel.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Wenhold was preceded in death by two daughters, Beverly A. Renner and Cindy L. Wenhold-Dise; a daughter-in-law, Gayle Radvon; a son-in-law, Terry Bishop; five brothers; and two sisters.
His funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 7, in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fifth Street, Perkasie, where a visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m.
Interment with full military honors will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Perkasie.
