Lucy B. (Bishop) Walton

July 20, 1923 — April 4, 2011

Lucy B. Walton, 87, of Telford, formerly of Fountainville, passed away on Monday, April 4, at her residence in the Lutheran Community at Telford. She was the wife of the late Harvey R. Walton, who died in 1983.

Born in Plumstead Township, she was the daughter of the late Walter H. and Phoebe (Swartz) Bishop.

A 1940 graduate of Doylestown High School, Lucy later graduated from Abington Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1945.

A homemaker most of her life, Mrs. Walton was also the evening nursing supervisor at Neshaminy Manor for 20 years until her retirement in 1989. Additionally, she had worked as a private duty nurse.

A lifelong member of St Luke's Lutheran Church, Dublin, she had been a Sunday School teacher, a member of Church Council, and had sung in the choir. Lucy was also active with the Women of the ELCA, the social ministry committee and the quilting group.

Most recently, she was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Telford.

Her Lutheran faith was very important to her, as seen by her participation in Lutheran World Relief projects and other charitable organizations.

Mrs. Walton had been a 4H Club leader.

She is survived by her five daughters: Barbara J. Nutter and her husband, Charles R. Nutter, of Vernon Hill, VA; Susan A. Walton, of San Francisco, CA; Patricia M. Young and her husband, Wayne L. Young, of Harleysville; Katherine L. Gingerich and her husband, the Rev. Michael D. Gingerich, of Hershey; Virginia D. Walton and her husband, Richard W. Mercier, PhD, of Chaplin, CT; seven grandchildren: Brad Nutter, of Vernon Hill, VA; Andrew Young and his wife, Mary Beth, of Chatham, NJ; Angela Nutter and her husband, Brian Hitchon, of Fountainville; Rebecca Eckman and her husband, William, of Santa Fe, NM; Adam Gingerich and his wife, Kathryn, of Philadelphia; David Gingerich and his wife, Janelle, of Hummelstown; Matthew Gingerich, of Hershey; and four great-grandsons: Marlon, Thomas, Mason, and Will.

Lucy is also survived by two brothers: George S. Bishop and his wife, Marge, of Plumstead Township; and Richard C. Bishop, of Levittown.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Herman S. Bishop, and a sister, Eva M. Detweiler.

A private graveside funeral service was held in St. Luke’s Union Cemetery, Dublin.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 8, at 3:00 pm in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 107 West Lincoln Avenue, Telford 18969. Family and friends may call at the church from 2:00 pm until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Walton’s memory to the Lutheran Community at Telford, 235 North Washington Street, Telford, PA 18969 or to Lutheran World Relief, Box 17061, Baltimore, MD 21298-9832.
