David G. Sweet

January 23, 1934 — December 7, 2011

David Gibson Sweet, 77, of Sellersville, formerly of Pocono Summit, Pennsylvania, and Boonton, New Jersey, passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. He was the beloved husband of the late Eileen M. (Kelly) Sweet, who died in 1988.

Born in Gettysburg, David was the son of the late Jay D. and Florence T. (Moody) Sweet. David grew up in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, where he was a 1951 graduate of Scotch Plains High School.

Mr. Sweet was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served in Korea as an aviation mechanic from 1951 through 1954. Upon completion of his assignment, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1955 through 1972, where he served as Chief Quartermaster. He was awarded the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon and qualified as a Rifle Marksman in 1956.

Following the end of his military career, David was employed as a plant engineer for Riverside Hospital, Boonton, until his retirement in 1988.

David enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He was also an avid fan of the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Steelers.

David is survived by his two daughters: Kelly Sweet, of Sellersville; and Debra Cikovsky, and her husband, Gary, of Succasunna, New Jersey; a son, Martin Sweet, of Sunrise, Florida; nine grandchildren: Rachel Giordano, Kristen Sweet, Jason Sweet, Ryan Cikovsky, Amelia Sweet, Erin Cikovsky, Katie Cikovsky, Oliver Sweet, and Sean Cikovsky; a sister, Penny Wilson, of Tavares, Florida; a niece, Lee Del Prete, and her family, of Tavares, Florida; two nephews: Adam Donaldson, and his family, of Tavares, Florida; and Ian Donaldson, and his family, of Weston, Florida; and his beloved pets: "Izzy," the dog; and "Bubba," "Will," and "Gracie," the cats.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Kevin.

Services and interment with military honors will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in David’s name be made to a veterans’ organization of one’s choice.
