Dennis N. Swanger, 49, of Silverdale, formerly of Chalfont, died Thursday, December 18, in the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina. He was the beloved husband of Cindy (Swinehart) Swanger for 23 years.
Born in Warren, Ohio, he was the son of the late Norman B. Swanger and Barbara A. (Winter) Swanger Miller and her husband, James, Watsontown, PA. He was a 1977 graduate of Lewisburg High School, Lewisburg, PA and a 1981 graduate of Bloomsburg State College, Bloomsburg, PA.
Dennis was a U. S. Navy veteran, having served proudly as an aviation supply officer aboard the USS New Orleans during the Gulf War. He also served as a supply officer aboard the SSBN Andrew Jackson. He was also stationed at Naval Supply Center, Pearl Harbor and later with aviation supply at Willow Grove Naval Air Station.
He had been employed as a software tester with Kulicke and Soffa Industries, Inc., Willow Grove. He was also a councilman on the Silverdale Borough Council, serving on the Pennridge Area Coordinating Committee.
Dennis was a member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie. Formerly, he had attended St. James’s Lutheran Church, Chalfont, where he had served on Church Council.
An accomplished woodworker, he was also actively involved in his sons’ sport teams, especially baseball and wrestling. He had also served as the treasurer of Boy Scout Troop 67, Hilltown.
A loving husband and father, Dennis’ family was his greatest joy.
In addition to his wife, mother, and stepfather, he is survived by four sons: Lyle A. Swanger, Pvt./USMC; Zane N. , Evan J. and Levi Z. Swanger , all of Silverdale; two sisters: Deborah Swanger, Danville; Betty Marie Brearley, Port Crane, NY; and his mother-in-law, Peg Swinehart, Lewisburg, PA.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kellyn N. Swanger, and another infant.
His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 27, at 11:00 AM in St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dill Avenue and Chestnut Street, Perkasie. Family and friends may call Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 AM until time of service. Interment will be held privately in Lewisburg, PA.
