Horst W. Sodemann, a long-time resident of Telford, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at his residence. He was 76.
He was the beloved husband of Christa (Frede) Sodemann. They would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in May.
Born in Königsberg, Germany, he was the son of the late Gerhard and Dorothea (Kirstein) Sodemann. Horst immigrated to the United States in 1961, first settling in Philadelphia and then moving to Telford in 1973.
Mr. Sodemann, had been employed as an architectural designer for 45 years by Benco Dental, of Horsham. He retired in 2006.
He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville.
Horst was also a member of the Catholic Kolping Society, Philadelphia, having served as president from 1970-1972. He was also a member of the Morwood Sportsmen’s Club, Green Lane and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1539, Sellersville.
An avid outdoorsman, Horst particularly enjoyed sailing and fishing. He also enjoyed following the World Cup, the America's Cup, and Formula One racing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Michael Sodemann and his wife, Janice, of Hellertown; Cindy Houston and her husband, Joseph, of Quakertown; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Sodemann, Rebecca Sodemann, and Derek Houston; two sisters, Ursula Lehman and Christa Sodemann, both of Germany; and his stepmother, Käthe (Patz) Sodemann, of Germany.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helga Risch, who died in 2014.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 22, in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main St., Sellersville, where a visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service. Interment will follow in the adjoining parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Sodemann’s memory may be made to St. Agnes Catholic Church at the address above.
