Stephen John Smith

January 18, 1944 — February 14, 2015

Stephen John Smith, of Sellersville, formerly a 25- year resident of Tylersport, passed away on Saturday, February 14, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the beloved husband of Adele E. (Rimbold) Smith for 37 years. He was 71.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Robert W. and Elizabeth (Burns) Smith. Steve graduated from Lansdale Catholic High School and in 1965 from St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia.

Mr. Smith had been employed as an accountant at several local companies, as well as owning and operating his own tax business.

Since 2009, Stephen had volunteered with VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) at the Indian Valley Library, Telford.

An avid birdwatcher, Steve had identified 520 different species in his lifetime, beginning in 1956 with a house sparrow. He had also enjoyed travelling with his wife.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Smith is survived by his three children: Adrienne Crider and her husband, Jamie, of Camp Hill; Stephen Smith and his wife, Mallory, of Green Island, NY; Molly Smith, of Sellersville; and three grandchildren: Quinn Smith, Rhys Crider, and John Smith.

He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters: Robert Smith and his wife, Jean, of Upper Black Eddy; Betsy Ansbro and her husband, Peter, of Brighton, MI; William Smith and his wife, Bonnie, of Zionsville; Susan Smith, of Hilltown; Joseph P. Smith and his spouse, Thomas St. Clair, of Philadelphia; Michael Smith and his wife, Tara, of Chalfont; Matthew Smith and his wife, Sherry Soldon, of Newtown; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Rydzewski, of Souderton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Rydzewski.

His funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA, where a visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
