Leroy Smith, Sr.

LeRoy Smith, Sr., 72, a long-time resident of New Britain, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009, in Doylestown Hospital.

Born in Topeka, Kansas, he was the son of the late Homer and Olive Pearl (Herman) Smith.

Mr. Smith was a four-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and of the U.S. Navy Reserve, serving two and a half years at Willow Grove Naval Air Station.

He had been employed for many years at the former R. Funk & Co., Inc., Doylestown, where he had been actively involved with test design, research and development, and quality control. He later was employed as a test engineer with WESCO Industrial Products, Inc., Lansdale, from which he retired in 1999.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Central Bucks Senior Center, Doylestown, and the German Hungarian Sports Club, Hilltown.

LeRoy was an avid fisherman, innovative designer, and woodworker. He was also a Philadelphia sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing cards with his friends at the Senior Center.

He is survived by his two children: Lisa Cadwallader, and her husband, Kevin, of Sellersville; and LeRoy Smith, Jr., and his wife, Lisbet, of Leonia, New Jersey; two grandchildren: Erin D. and Brendon R. Cadwallader, both of Sellersville; and one brother, William G. Smith, of Topeka, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Mabel Dowell and Cleo Lawson; and two brothers: Harry Smith and Garland Smith.

His Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 11, 2009, at 11:30 AM in St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dill Avenue and Chestnut Street, Perkasie, PA 18944. Family and friends may call Friday morning at the church, beginning at 10:30 AM until time of service.

Interment will be in Beulah Cemetery, New Britain.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Bucks Senior Center, 700 Shady Retreat Road, Doylestown, PA 18901.
