Catherine A. Shelly, 95, a lifelong resident of Sellersville, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 24, at the Lutheran Community, Telford. She was the beloved wife of the late George H. Shelly for 60 years, until his death in 1999.
Born in Philadelphia in 1914, she was the daughter of the late Oliver John and Mary Catherine (Geckle) Mock.
She was a 1933 graduate of Sell-Perk High School and, later, Taylor Business School, Philadelphia.
She had been employed in the office of the former Royal Pants Factory, Perkasie.
Catherine married George H. Shelly in 1939.
Primarily a homemaker after her marriage, Mrs. Shelly had been employed part-time in the cafeteria of the former Pennridge South Junior High School. She was later employed at Emico, Perkasie, until her retirement in 1979.
Mrs. Shelly was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville, where she was active with the Women of the Church group.
An avid reader, she also enjoyed doing word search puzzles in her later years. For 40 years, she had played in a ladies' card club comprised of high school friends.
Mrs. Shelly is survived by her son, John R. Shelly and his wife, Frances Shelly, Sellersville; daughter, Carol Kerber and her husband, William C. Kerber, Safety Harbor, FL; five grandchildren: Christopher J. Shelly, Sellersville; Rebecca D. Simonson and her husband, Scott Simonson, New Port Richie, FL; Jessica C. Pollock and her husband, Thomas G. Pollock, DO, Conyngham; Daniel S. Kerber and his wife, Amy Kerber, Gastonia, NC; Spencer S. Shelly, VMD, and his wife, Jennifer J. Shelly, VMD, Ridley Park; seven great-grandchildren: Ryan, Evan, Claire, Thomas, Jacob, Owen, and Zoe; and a sister, Nancy Brown, Daytona Beach Shores, FL.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Almon James "Bud" Mock, Oliver John "Jack" Mock, Jr., and two sisters: Evelyn Huss and Dorothy Ruzzuto.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 28, at 11:00 AM in St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call at the church Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Interment will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at the above address.
