Flora Jane Luddy Schwager, 85, formerly of Sellersville, entered into rest peacefully Thursday, August 27, 2009, in the Topton Lutheran Home, Topton. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis Schwager, Jr., who passed away in 2007. They had been married 36 years.
Born in Abington, she was the daughter of the late Paul C., Sr., and Florence (Bussinger) Shelmire. She was a 1942 graduate of Upper Southampton High School.
Mrs. Schwager had been employed as a realtor for many years, working for the local offices of Kenneth Grosse, Larry M. Somers, and, most recently, Century 21, Sellersville, retiring in 1998. She was also a Notary Public.
Elected from 1971 to 1982 to serve as auditor for the Board of Elections in West Rockhill Township, she was also an active poll worker.
Mrs. Schwager had been a member of the North Penn Board of Realtors, the Bucks County Board of Realtors, and the Women’s Council of Realtors.
A past treasurer and long-time member of the former Pennridge Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW), she had received the J. N. Barndt Award for Outstanding Member.
Mrs. Schwager had volunteered with the Easter Seals Society and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by four daughters: Janet L. Yerger, of Reading; Evelyn K. Bitner, and her husband, Thomas, of Coopersburg; Shirley A. DeLong, of Perkasie; and Joanne Dry, of Harleysville; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Paul C. Shelmire, Jr., and his wife, Eva; and John E. Shelmire, all of Quakertown; and a sister, Barbara A. Lewandowski, and her husband, Alfonso, of Trumbauersville.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Donald W. Shelmire, and a sister, Sylvia Bleam.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday morning, September 1, 2009, at 11:00 AM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call Tuesday, from 10:00 AM until time of service, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Quakertown.
