Helen Schmutzler, 93, of Kensington (Philadelphia), formerly of Perkasie, passed away early Saturday morning, September 5, 2009, at Chapel Manor Center, Philadelphia. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur E. Schmutzler, who died in 1986.
Born in Perkasie, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Kniesner) Hudack.
Mrs. Schmutzler was employed as a private duty nurse for many years.
She had been a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Kensington.
Even though blind, Mrs. Schmutzler enjoyed crocheting, especially blankets for grandchildren and craft shows, afghans, and dog blankets. She also liked to listen to talk radio, where she was known as "Helen of Kensington."
She is survived by her three children: Thomas A. Schmutzler, of North Carolina; Bette Toomey-Ready, and her husband, William, of Avon, Connecticut; and Karen Schmutzler, and her husband, Louis Walker, of Northeast Philadelphia; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two great-granddaughters and two brothers, Martin and Robert.
Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 11:30 AM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call Thursday morning at the funeral home from 10:30 AM until time of service.
Interment will be in Tohickon Union Cemetery, Weisel (northeast of Perkasie).
