Kenneth Schmell, 84, of Sellersville, formerly of Pipersville, died peacefully at home on Friday, August 19, 2011. He was the husband of the late Caroline (Irwin) Schmell for 44 years until her death in 1998.
Born in Plumsteadville, he was the son of the late Charles S. and Flora (Hellerick) Schmell.
Ken served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class and was deployed to Italy during World War II.
For 30 years, Mr. Schmell worked at Brooks Instrument, Hatfield. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at Clemens Supermarket, Plumsteadville.
A life member of the Plumsteadville Volunteer Fire Company, he served in many capacities, including President, Vice-President, Trustee, and Engineer. He was also very active in assisting the Ladies Auxiliary with various fundraisers, such as Soup and Hoagie Days.
Although a man of few words, Ken touched the lives of many. He will be sadly missed by all.
He is survived by his five children: Michael; Charles, and his wife, Janet; Cathy Lippincott, and her husband, Jack; Bob, and his wife, Cindy; and Chris; four grandchildren: Heather Gross; Debi Lippincott, and her companion, Lou LaPalombara; Crystal Lippincott; and Jack Lippincott; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Schmell, and his sister, Caroline Roman.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011, at 11:00 AM in Calvary Chapel of Central Bucks, 150 East Butler Avenue, Chalfont, PA 18914. Family and friends may call Wednesday evening, August 24, at the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM and at the church Thursday morning from 9:30 AM until time of service.
Interment with military honors will follow in Beulah Cemetery, New Britain.
