Durrell “Dick” Scheetz, a longtime resident of Sellersville, formerly of Quakertown, passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016, in the Community at Rockhill, West Rockhill Township. He was 90.
He was the beloved husband of Geraldine M. (Moyer) Scheetz for 66 years.
Born in Quakertown, he was the son of the late Chester G. and Minnie P. (Glassmyer) Scheetz. Dick was a graduate of Quakertown High School.
Mr. Scheetz was a U.S. Army veteran, having served stateside in the Military Police from 1945-1946.
Dick had been employed for 27 years as a machinist at the former U. S. Gauge Division, Ametek, Inc., Sellersville, until retiring in 1990. He had also worked at Philco Ford, Lansdale.
He was a long-time member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Sellersville,where he had served on the Church Consistory.
Dick was a 70-year member of the American Legion Post 242, Quakertown and a 50-year member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1539, Sellersville.
A fan of the Philadelphia Phillies, Dick had also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and crossword puzzles.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Robin Maurer and her husband, Lee, of Sellersville; Jeff Scheetz and his wife, Ann, of Canandaigua, NY; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Kenneth Scheetz, of Center Valley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Scheetz, in 1988, and a sister, Esther Ahlum.
His memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, January 13, in St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 104 Green Street., Sellersville, where a visitation will take place from 11 a.m. until time of service.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
