Susan Schaffner, of Flemington, New Jersey, formerly of Sellersville, went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 7, at Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington. She was 53.
Born in Sellersville, she was the daughter of Fred C. Schaffner, Jr., of Sellersville, and the late Joan (Kuhn) Schaffner Palazzolo.
Susan was a 1978 graduate of Souderton High School. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Temple University in 1983. She later received her Masters degree from Allentown College (DeSales University). She was also a Certified Public Accountant.
Susan had been employed as a Business Administrator in the Frenchtown School District, Frenchtown, NJ for over 14 years. She had also served as a shared Business Administrator at Milford Public School, Califon Public School and, most recently, Alexandria Township School.
Prior to her move to New Jersey, Susan had been employed as Director of Accounting in the Pennridge School District from 1993-1997.
Susan was a member of Washington Crossing United Methodist Church, Washington Crossing, PA.
Ms. Schaffner was a member of the Hunterdon-Warren Association of School Business Officials and the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials.
A lover of all animals but particularly an accomplished horsewoman, Susan trained and showed Paso Fino horses. She began riding at age six and as a young girl had participated in the Cherry Blossom Parade in Washington, D.C. She also enjoyed traveling with her daughter, especially to England, France, Puerto Rico, and the Cayman Islands.
Susan will be dearly missed by her beloved family and by all of her many friends and school district colleagues.
In addition to her father, Susan is survived by her daughter, MacKenna Schaffner, of Flemington; two brothers: Thomas Schaffner and his wife, Kathy, of Collegeville; Larry Palazzolo and his wife, Kara, of Ardmore; her stepfather, Larry Palazzolo, Sr., of North Wales; her father’s long-time companion, LaRue Hinkle, of Sellersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA. Family and friends may call Tuesday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
