Raymond E. Schaffer

July 28, 1933 — December 27, 2013

Raymond E. Schaffer, 80, of Perkasie, formerly of Sellersville, passed away at his residence on Friday, December 27, 2013.

Born in Almont, he was the son of the late Michael and Dorothy Ellen (Crouthamel) Schaffer.

Mr. Schaffer was a Pennsylvania Army National Guard veteran, having served during the Korean War.

Known also as “Moose,” Ray had been employed as a machinist for
44 ½ years with the former U. S. Gauge Division, Ametek, Inc., Sellersville. He retired in 1996.

Mr. Schaffer was a long-time member of Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville (Almont). He was still proud of his 13 years of perfect Sunday school attendance as a youngster.

Ray was a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 1539, of Sellersville. He was also a Mason and a member of the MacCalla Lodge No. 596, of Souderton. Moose was also a member of the Great Swamp Fish, Game, and Forestry Association, of Trumbauersville and the Souderton-Harleysville Game, Fish, and Forestry Association, of Tylersport.

Mr. Schaffer had coached and umpired for Pennridge Little League and Community League baseball for eight years.

An avid outdoorsman, Ray enjoyed walking, fishing and hunting. He had even hunted big game in Wyoming. He was a Phillies and Eagles fan as well.

Mr. Schaffer is survived by his son, Michael R. Schaffer, of Sellersville.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Harpel.

All services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Schaffer’s name to Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 733 Ridge Road, Sellersville, PA 18960.
