Russell James Roth, Sr., 83, of Sellersville, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ellen (Peterson) Roth for 59 years.
Born and raised in Rochester, New York, he was the son of the late Frank and Beatrice (Russell) Roth.
Mr. Roth was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the end of World War II and during the Korean War.
Russell was a graduate of Rutgers University.
A pioneer in the television and electronics industry, Mr. Roth had been employed at Philco Ford, later Ford Motor Company, as a manufacturing manager. He was instrumental in the development of television and had assignments at major manufacturing facilities worldwide, including Lansdale; Philadelphia; Metuchen, New Jersey; Dearborn, Michigan; Batavia, New York; and São Paulo, Brazil. He retired in 1992 after 28 years in a variety of positions.
An avid reader, Russell also loved traveling, fishing, boating, and playing bridge.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Roth is survived by his five children: Cynthia A. Mannes and her husband, Michael, of Towamencin; Russell J. Roth, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of Milford Township; Gregg Roth and his wife, Elizabeth, of Marlborough Township; Frank Andrew Roth, and his wife, Kimberly, of South Lyon, Michigan; and Richard C. Roth, of Langhorne; nine grandchildren: Emily Leventhal and her husband, David; Kevin Mannes; Matthew Roth; James Roth; Caitlin Roth; Kelly Mannes; Russell J. Roth, III; Frank Roth; David Roth; a sister-in-law, Irene Roth, of Hanover, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, William Roth, and two sisters: Margaret Mary Roth and Joan Roth.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 14, 2012, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10 AM until time of service.
Interment with military honors will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
