Edwin James Rims, 81, a lifelong resident of Hilltown, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, October 22. He was the beloved husband of the late Myrtle L. (Slotter) Rims for 47 years until her death in 2000.
Born in Hilltown, he was the son of the late Thomas and Valeria (Taujanska) Rims. He was a 1949 graduate of Blooming Glen High School.
Ed was employed by H. E. Bishop Excavation, Dublin, as a bulldozer operator from 1949-1951.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served on active duty during the Korean War.
A keen business sense led Mr. Rims to complete business training at Temple University following his military service. Self-employed, he was the owner of Edwin J. Rims Company, of Hilltown, a sorting contracting business of reclaimed parts, providing services to Ford Motor Co., General Motors, Mack Truck, and Boeing. With his wife serving as bookkeeper, Ed operated his business for many years.
Ed and Myrtle enjoyed traveling and playing pinochle with their friends. Ed enjoyed reading, especially history. He enjoyed visits from his sister, Millie and his grandchildren. Ed always offered a story or quote that included an important life lesson.
He is survived by his two daughters: Debra A. Vasey and her husband, Thomas, of Doylestown; Donna M. Gassner and her husband, Richard, of Boyertown; four grandchildren: Sean, Caitlin, Emily, and Jimmy; two sisters: Violet Sitko, of West Rockhill Township; Amelia Conkling, of Hilltown Township; two brothers: Thomas Rims, of Hilltown Township; Andrew Rims, of Doylestown; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Edwin James Rims, Jr.; a sister, Frances Rims; and a brother, John Rims.
His memorial service will be held on Saturday afternoon, October 30, 2010, at 4:00 PM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960.
