Delphine Opal Reitz, 90, passed away in Allentown on Monday, April 16, 2012, surrounded by her three daughters. For 66 years, she was the beloved wife of the Rev. Elwood W. Reitz, who passed away in January.
Born in Hunter Station, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence M. and Mary Jane (Reed) Hoover. She was a 1942 graduate of Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove.
Delphine began her career as a business education teacher in Hegins, PA and then taught in the Downingtown and West Chester school districts. She was later employed as an administrative assistant at West Chester State University.
Mrs. Reitz was a dedicated partner to her husband's ministries at the three churches he served: Zion Lutheran, Leacock; St. Michael's Lutheran, Sellersville; and Calvary Lutheran, West Chester.
Delphine’s favorite pastimes were sewing, knitting, baking, playing the piano, and RV camping with her family. She also enjoyed extensive traveling with her husband, with trips to Canada, several visits to Europe, and excursions throughout the United States, including 23 national parks.
She was an extremely devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her family always came first; however, she also spent many hours helping others in need.
Mrs. Reitz is survived by her three daughters: Doris Ann Gross and her husband, Charles, of Edgewater, MD; Carol Jean Reitz, of Ardmore; Marybeth Schneider, and her husband, Timothy, of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren: Dr. Erica Gross, of Hartford, CT; Matthew Schneider and his wife, Jana, of Roanoke, VA; Andrew Schneider; Michael Schneider, both of Santa Barbara, CA; Emily Schneider, of Grantham; and a brother, Myles A. Hoover, of Santa Rosa, CA.
