Nicholas Radvon

January 25, 1933 — July 19, 2014

Nicholas Radvon, 81, of Perkasie, passed away on Saturday morning, July 19, 2014, in Lehigh Valley Hospital – Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Surotchak) Radvon for 57 years.

Born in Palmerton, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Esther (Stenach) Radvon and step-son of the late Luther Metzger.

Nick was a 1950 graduate of Palmerton High School, where he had played football. He later graduated from East Stroudsburg State College in 1957. He received his Masters degree in Education from Temple University and did graduate work at Villanova University.

Mr. Radvon was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Oriskany.

Previously a science teacher in Pemberton, New Jersey, Nick later had a long tenure in the Pennridge School District, retiring in 1991. He also had been employed for 16 years with the PA Liquor Control Board.

He was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Perkasie. He also had been a member of the American Legion, Nase-Kraft Post 255, Sellersville and the Palmerton Historical Society.

In addition to his wife, Nick is survived by his son, Gregory John Radvon, and his wife Andrea, of Perkasie; a brother, Walter Radvon, of DeLand, Florida; several nieces and nephews; and two grand-dogs, “Bubba” and “Otto.”

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gayle Anne Radvon, and a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Ferris.

His funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, July 23, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, where a visitation will be held from 10 am until time of service. Interment will follow in St. Andrew’s Union Cemetery, Perkasie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Memorial Fund of St. Andrew's Ev. Lutheran Church, 20 Dill Avenue, Perkasie, PA 18944 or The Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg, 2445 Schoenersville Road, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
