Mary Frances Potance, 90, a two-year resident of the Lutheran Community at Telford, formerly of Hatfield and Philadelphia, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2012, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis J. Potance, who died in 1982.
Born in Lehighton, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary Catherine (Siglin) Flory. Mary grew up in Broadheadsville, where she was a 1939 graduate of Chestnuthill High School. She later graduated from Rudemar School of Beauty Culture, in Philadelphia.
Mary had been employed for many years by the Colonnade Restaurant, of Philadelphia. She was later employed as an assembler for Pittman, in Sellersville and Mainland, retiring in 1986.
Mrs. Potance was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, of Hatfield, where she had been a member of WELCA.
Mary was a dedicated member and volunteer at the Harleysville Senior Center.
Mrs. Potance loved the outdoors, walking, gardening, and travelling. She also enjoyed doing yoga and swimming at the Hatfield Pool. Mrs. Potance most loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters: Lynne D. Kinsey, of Green Lane; Frances L. Shelly and her husband, John R., of Sellersville; five grandchildren: Cheryl D. Bard and her husband, Richard K., Jr., of Lancaster; Christopher J. Shelly, of Sellersville; Kristie L. Langen and her husband, Brian, of Green Lane; Jessica C. Pollock and her husband, Thomas G., D.O., of Sugarloaf; Spencer S. Shelly, V.M.D., and his wife, Jennifer, V.M.D., of Ridley Park.; and nine great-grandchildren: Aaron; Daniel; Tyler; Kassidy; B. Lukas; Thomas; Owen; Zoe; and Samantha.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, William E. Flory.
Her funeral service will be held at 11a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2012, in Grace Lutheran Church, 25 West Broad Street, Hatfield, PA 19440. Family and friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to time of service. Interment will follow in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Grace Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 57, Hatfield, PA 19440.
