James H. Pettie, Sr., a lifelong resident of Sellersville, passed away Thursday, July18, at his residence, surrounded by his wife and family. He was the beloved husband of Eula Faye (Fox) Pettie for 58 years. He was 77.
Born in Sellersville, he was the son of the late Theodore R., Sr. and Lillian Mae (Redfern) Pettie.
Mr. Pettie had been self-employed as a wholesale florist in West Rockhill Township.
He was a lifelong member of St. Agnes Church, Sellersville.
A hard worker for his entire life, Jim had built his own home and always had projects to tackle. He also fixed and restored large farm machinery and equipment. Remembered fondly as a “big kid,” he loved to build bridges and trains. He had constructed a train and ran it during West Rockhill’s annual Septemberfest.
Jim was also a pilot and collected antique fire trucks as well, but he was especially proud of his 1930 DeSoto.
He enjoyed helping others and loved the life that he and his family shared on their beloved homestead.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pettie is survived by his six children and their spouses: James H. Pettie, Jr.; Joseph R. Pettie; John A. Pettie; Mary R. Haire; Lillian Mae Schomaker; Joyce Ann McCormick; fourteen grandchildren: Josh, Jimmy III, Jacob, Katie, Kyle, Vickie, Samantha, Robert, John, Jess, Crystal, Chris, Amanda, and Thomas; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Russell Pettie.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Pettie, Sr. and Theodore Pettie, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville 18960. Family and friends may call at the church Tuesday morning from
9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be private.
All are invited to a funeral luncheon to be held at Pettie's Lake immediately after Mass.
