M. "Buck" Peitzman, 88, of Sellersville, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor B. (Griesel) Peitzman for 34 years and the late Sara (Morrison) Peitzman, who passed away in 1966.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Mary G. (Murphy) Peitzman. He was a 1941 graduate of Olney High School.
Buck was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II in both the European and Pacific Theaters. While aboard ship, he saw the historic, landmark moment of the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima.
Following the death of his first wife, Buck moved to Sellersville with his five young children to raise his family in the country.
He had been employed for 40 years by Philadelphia Electric Company as an overhead line supervisor, retiring in 1986. Buck also owned and operated the Ride and Groom Saddle Shop from his residence for 35 years.
Along with his brothers, he was a member of the Huntingdon Valley Riding and Driving Association, having served as a past president. He also judged and showed driving ponies.
A longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, of Hilltown, Mr. Peitzman enjoyed helping out at the church in any capacity.
Buck loved his horses and his other animals, gardening, and riding his tractor. He was an avid Philadelphia A’s and Phillies fan. When his children were young, Mr. Peitzman had also enjoyed coaching their various athletic teams. He was devoted to his family and proud of their achievements.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five children: Connie Lordan and her husband, Michael, of Springtown; Cynthia Carreras, of Pennsburg; Carol Whaland and her husband, Dan, of Perkasie; Cathy Cowdery and her husband, Fred, of Perkasie; Matt Peitzman and his wife, Elizabeth, of Quakertown; a daughter-in-law, Beth A. Peitzman, of Florida; ten grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Kenneth Peitzman, and his companion, Gerald, of Malvern; two sisters: Bess Lapsley and her husband, George, of Cape May, NJ; Myra Peitzman, of Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. Peitzman, who died in 2011, and three brothers: Raymond, Ralph, and Jerome.
His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1530 Augsburg Drive, Hilltown, PA 18927.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
