Dorothy “Jean” Parrish, of Sellersville, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away Monday, September 2, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles A. Wise. She was 79.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Murdoch and Louise (Schmitt) McKinnon. She attended Olney High School, Philadelphia.
Jean was a homemaker most of her life.
A member of St Michael's Lutheran Church, Sellersville, Jean had worshipped at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Philadelphia, prior to her move to Bucks County.
Jean enjoyed playing cards with friends. She had an extraordinary talent with crocheted items, making hundreds of afghans, baby sweaters, blankets, hats and gloves and beautiful stuffed animals. She had also made helmet liners for our troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mrs. Parrish is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Bechtle, and her husband, Reid, of Clifton, Virginia; two grandchildren: Amy Lail and her husband, Brian, of Centreville, Virginia; Lori Bechtle, of Fairfax, Virginia; a great-grandson, Matthew Lail; a sister, Joan Albert, and her husband, Walter, of Newtown Square; and a brother, Murdoch W. McKinnon, of Toms River, New Jersey; and ten nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Wise; her companion of 25 years, Norman “Pete” Pearson, who passed away in 2007; and a sister, Betty Blattner.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 6, in St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call at the church Friday morning from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church at the above address.
