Gerald L. Nees, Sr., of Perkasie, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in St. Luke’s Hospice House, Bethlehem. He was 89.
He was the husband of the late Claire (Mattern) Nees for 68 years until her death in October of this year.
Born in Abington, he was a son of the late George A. and Edna C. (Krough) Nees.
Mr. Nees was a U. S. Air Force veteran, having served stateside from 1949-1953.
A workaholic with an amazing work ethic, Gerald frequently held two or three jobs simultaneously. For over 30 years, he was the owner and operator of Nees Menswear, in Philadelphia, a business that was his pride and joy. He had also worked as a roller at the Philadelphia Inquirer for 20 years.
A talented softball player as a young man, Gerald had played in a semi-pro league in Philadelphia. In later years, he had always enjoyed dining out and never could say “no” to a buffet. An avid gardener, Gerald had loved nothing more than working for countless hours maintaining his beautiful flower beds and garden.
Mr. Nees is survived by his three sons: Gregory Nees, of Colorado, Gerald Nees, of Kansas, and Glenn Nees, of Perkasie; five grandchildren: Shannon, Megan, Zachary, Jeanette, and Monica; five great-grandchildren; two sisters: Charlotte Kitten and Patricia Gamble; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Nees, of Hatfield.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Nees, in 2013, and a granddaughter, Joy Nees.
Services in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown will be private.
