Barry L. Moyer, of Sellersville, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. He was 65.
Born in Sellersville, he was the son of the late Millard C. and C. Marie (Gilbert) Moyer. Barry was a 1967 graduate of Souderton High School.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam era.
Barry had been employed for 35 years as a switch man for Bell Telephone, later Verizon. He retired in 2010.
Mr. Moyer had been a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Sellersville.
Civic-minded, Barry volunteered and served with many organizations and community activities.
A long-time active member of the Sellersville Fire Department, Barry had served as a Trustee and volunteered at every carnival, banquet, and ham dinner. He had also coordinated rentals for the firemen’s Grove.
Barry was also a member of the American Legion Nase-Kraft Post 255, of Sellersville.
He had served for many years on the Sellersville Borough Park and Recreation Board, where he was a past secretary. Barry always participated with the annual Sellersville Easter Egg Hunt and Kids’ Fishing Derby.
Barry loved the beach and enjoyed going to thrift shops, particularly Care and Share, and collecting “gee-wiz” gadgets. He also liked feeding the deer that visited his property. His granddaughter was the love of his life.
He is survived by his two children: Philip M. Moyer and his fiancée, Patty Nelson, of Sellersville; Rhonda Moyer and her husband, Nicholas G. Wagner, of Philadelphia; a granddaughter, Marian; a sister, Darlene Palmer, and her husband, Michael, of Brooksville, FL; a sister-in-law, Betty Moyer, of Harleysville; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Sue Hangey, of Sellersville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lorna Moyer, and a brother, Bruce Moyer.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, March 30, at the Sellersville Fire Department, 2 North Main Street, Sellersville 18960, where a visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
To honor Barry’s service to the community and the Park and Recreation Board, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Borough of Sellersville, 140 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Checks should be made payable to the Borough of Sellersville, with the memo noting Barry Moyer.
