Albert Joseph Motz, of Perkasie, formerly of Hackettstown, New Jersey, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, July 7, 2013, in St. Luke’s VNA Hospice House, Lower Saucon Township. He was 68.
He was the beloved husband of Judith A. (Smith) Motz for thirteen years.
Born in Hazleton, he was the son of Anna (Lozosky) Motz, of Hope, New Jersey and the late Albert W. Motz. As a young boy, Al enjoyed family trips to Promised Land State Park in Pike County.
Al was a 1962 graduate of Tamaqua High School, where he had played on the football team. He later earned an Associate Degree in Business at Ursinus College, Collegeville.
Mr. Motz was a U. S. Navy veteran, having served aboard the submarines, U.S. S. Pickerel and U.S. S. Mackerel, during the Viet Nam War.
He had been employed for 23 years as a computer technician at Unisys, Blue Bell. Later, he was self-employed as a financial planner, from which he retired.
Mr. Motz was a member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie.
He was a member of the Pennridge Community Center, Silverdale.
A talented photographer and gardener, Al also enjoyed an active lifestyle. He had earned a Black Belt in Okinawan karate. He loved to fish and exercise and had recently learned to play golf. He especially loved to spend time at Cape May or on any beach.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Motz is survived by his four children: Lori Yoder and her husband, Steven, of Green Lane; Brian Albert Motz and his wife, Kristen, of Perkasie; Alissa Motz; Daniel Motz; three grandchildren: Zachary Collis; Mason Albert Motz; Tucker Clement Motz; two stepchildren: Julie Montesano and her husband, Rocco, of Sparta, New Jersey; Jonathan Moore and his wife, Dhania, New York, New York; four step-grandchildren: Gerard Montesano; Dante Montesano; Daniella Montesano; Zacary Moore; and his in-laws, Leland and Genevieve (Gandle) Smith, of Pearl River, New York.
In addition to his father, Al was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Motz.
His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013, in St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dill Avenue and Chestnut Street, Perkasie, PA 18944. Family and friends may call at the church Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
