Thomas V. Moore

August 30, 1942 — September 26, 2022

Thomas V. Moore, a long-time resident of Hilltown Township, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022, at his residence. He was 80.

He was the beloved husband of Sandra K. (McElroy) Moore for 59 years.

Born in Newport News, VA, Tom was the son of the late Dallas W. and Margaret S. (Robertson) Moore. He was a 1960 graduate of Pennridge High School.

Tom served as vice president for Ives Equipment Corporation, in King of Prussia, for over 25 years. He also was a part-time sports writer for the Doylestown Intelligencer/North Penn Reporter for 12 years, covering high school, college, and professional sports from 1964-1976.

Tom was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Perkasie.

A past president and board member of the Pennridge-Quakertown Sports Hall of Fame, Tom was part of the Hall of Fame's 2015 induction class. He earned nine varsity letters at Pennridge, including four in baseball and three in basketball. Tom helped the Rams earn back-to-back Bux-Mont baseball championships, compiling an 11-1 pitching record as a junior and senior, throwing a one-hitter in the 1960 title game. He was Wayne Helman's starting quarterback in 1959, as well as having been voted homecoming king.

Tom played football for two years at Delaware Valley College, starting at quarterback and defensive back. He set a single-season school record with four interceptions in eight games, as well as 199 yards of total offense. In 1954 at the age of 12, while playing Biddy Basketball, he had an opportunity to play in the same arena on the same day as high school star, Wilt Chamberlain.

He thoroughly enjoyed music, teaching lifelong learning center classes in East Stroudsburg on everything from Frank Sinatra to protest songs to women in the blues to Leonard Cohen. Tom played guitar and drums in several bands in the late 1950s and early 1960s, had 20,000 songs on the hard drive of his computer, and loved making CDs for family, friends, and acquaintances.

Tom loved coffee shops and a good mocha latte, in addition to cooking, traveling, trivia contests, and telling stories. He was kind, generous, made friends easily, and has been described as “The standard that all Dads were measured against.”

In addition to wife Sandra, Mr. Moore is survived by his three children: Thomas S. Moore and his wife, Deborah, of Warrington, Tara Q. Detweiler and her husband, Troy, of Telford, and Thador S. Moore, of Clifton Heights; brother-in-law, Douglas McElroy, (wife Joan); grandchildren: Jenna Detweiler and Dylan Detweiler; Anthony, Stephen, Aimee, and Kevin Geneva; and two foster grandchildren, Daniella and J.J.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy C. Moore, in 2009, and two brothers, Dallas Moore and Randall Moore.

His Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 8, at St. Andrew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 20 Dill Ave., Perkasie, PA 18944, where the family will greet visitors from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
