Tammy Colleen "Tam" Moore, 43, of Perkasie, passed away early Saturday morning, March 21, 2009, in Doylestown Hospital due to complications following heart valve surgery.
Born in Doylestown on February 25, 1966, she was the daughter of Thomas V. and Sandra K. (McElroy) Moore of Hilltown.
Tammy was a 1984 graduate of Pennridge High School. She was graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/Public Relations and a minor in Studies of Women and Men in Society.
Through USC’s "Junior Year Abroad," Tammy studied at the University of Kent, Canterbury, England. In her senior year, she served a public relations internship at the Greater Los Angeles affiliate of the American Heart Association. Also at USC, she was a member of the Public Relations Society of America, a Resident Advisor, a reporter for the Student News Service, the Ticket Office Supervisor, and a Summer Conference Assistant.
While at USC, she kept in touch with family and friends with a much-anticipated quarterly newsletter, "the L.A. Tams."
Tammy had been employed as a Director of Licensing at Paramount Pictures, Los Angeles, where her primary responsibility was the "Star Trek" television series. She also was the Director of Merchandising for Ticketmaster, Los Angeles; the Director of National Promotions for Columbia Tri-Star Studio, Culver City, California; and Vice-President for Eclipse Worldwide, Los Angeles.
An accomplished writer, she also wrote and published a small monthly magazine, "Swing," which focused on the Big Band and Jump revival in the Los Angeles area. She also enjoyed being a "seat filler" at various Academy Award ceremonies.
Tammy returned to Bucks County in 2007 and, in a complete career change, secured her teaching certificate from Gwynedd-Mercy College in December 2008. She was employed as a substitute teacher in the Pennridge School District at the time of her death.
Her devotion to the needs of children had begun early in life with stints as a much-in–demand teenage babysitter and Sunday School teacher. Beginning in college and continuing for many years, she was involved with the Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles program, Head Start, and the AIDS Walk. In April 2008, while pursuing her education degree, Tammy became a foster mother.
She loved antiques and ‘40’s and ‘50’s retro furniture and art featuring a Hollywood theme. Family and friends were always regaled with her continuing love of USC.
A happy, giving person known for her wit, Tammy adored her many pets. Through the years she cared for many rescue dogs and cats, assigning each Hollywood-based names. Currently, they include Max (Factor), Lana (Turner), and Betty (Grable).
Her greatest loves, along with her many pets, were her niece, nephew, and two foster children.
In addition to her parents, Tammy is survived by her two brothers and sister: Thomas S. Moore, and his wife, Deborah, of Warrington; Tara Quinn Detweiler, and her husband, Troy, of Telford; and Thador S. Moore, and his wife, Marnie, of Hatfield; six nieces and nephews: Anthony, Stephen, Aimee, and Kevin Geneva; and Jenna and Dylan Detweiler; two foster children: Daniella and J.J. (Johnathon); an uncle, S. Douglas McElroy, and his wife, Joan, of Mercerville, New Jersey; and five cousins: Shane McElroy; Jana Gill, and her husband, Drew, of Lake Worth, Florida; Craig Allison, of Canby, Oregon; Mark Moore, of Bakersfield, California; and Kelly Steele, and her husband, John, of Bakersfield, California.
She was preceded in death by a cousin, Scott Allison.
