Dennis I. Moore

February 25, 1946 — February 23, 2014

Dennis I. Moore, a life-long resident of Sellersville, passed away surrounded by his loving family in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township, on Sunday, February 23. He was the beloved husband of Polly (Class) Moore for 42 years. He was 67.

Born in Sellersville, he was the son of the late Irvin E. and Anna Margaret (Hinkle) Moore. Denny was a 1965 graduate of Pennridge High School.

Mr. Moore was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Vietnam War.

Denny had been recently employed for over 15 years with Lansdale Amusement, of Hatfield. Previously, he had been employed as a machinist and mechanic for several local companies as well.

Mr. Moore was a long-time member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Sellersville.

A life member of the Sellersville Fire Department, Denny had served as an engineer and driver. In 1993, he was recognized as the Firefighter of the Year. He had recently received his 50 year badge and was honored with the 2014 Malvin Blackwell Award for distinguished service to the fire department.

At the annual fire department carnival, he was always making hamburgers and French fries. He had also participated in the Fire Prevention programs, driving children around town in the fire truck.

Along with his wife, he had driven the fire truck for many years, escorting Santa around Sellersville on Christmas Eve.

Denny was also a member of the American Legion Nase-Kraft Post 255, of Sellersville.

With his wife, he had volunteered at the Lutheran Community at Telford.

An excellent woodworker, Denny also worked a metal lathe to build and fix household items, along with special fire truck parts. He enjoyed working in his yard and loved to cook out and grill. He was passionate about any Ford vehicle.

A no-nonsense “man’s man,” Denny possessed a warm smile, an engaging sense of humor, a quiet strength, and a commitment to family, friends and community that will be greatly missed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Christine James, of Quakertown; two grandchildren: Sean Scott James and his wife, Tiffany, of Sellersville; Logan Wrecsics, of Quakertown, two great-grandchildren, Robert James and Richard James; a sister, Sandra Nalepa, of Perkasie; an aunt, LaRue Hinkle, of West Rockhill; four sisters-in-law, June Melcher and her husband, Bob; Emilie Pekar; Alice Moore and her husband, Harry; Elke Allen; a brother-in-law, James Class and his wife, Connie; many nieces and nephews; and his special extended family of friends from Lansdale Amusement.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittani Nichol James.

A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, at the Sellersville Fire Department, 2 North Main Street, Sellersville 18960, where a visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until time of service.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sellersville Fire Department, P.O. Box 315, Sellersville, PA 18960.
