Lowell W. Mitchell, Jr.

October 1, 1940 — December 28, 2008

Lowell William Mitchell, Jr., 68, of Bethlehem, passed away on Sunday, December 28, at VNA Hospice of St. Luke’s, Lower Saucon Township. He was the husband of Emily Fay (Schluben) Mitchell for 43 years.

Born in New Jersey, he was the son of the late Lowell William, Sr. and Olive (Wheeler) Mitchell. He was baptized by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale at the Marble Collegiate Church, New York City.

Mr. Mitchell was employed for more than 40 years as a layout operator with Western Electric, Allentown, which later became Lucent Technologies.

He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schoenersville.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Mitchell is survived by a daughter; Karen J. Mitchell, King of Prussia; a sister, Diane Shook, Allentown; one step-sister, Bonnie VanGundy and her husband, Keith, Allentown; one step-brother, Ronald Mitchell and his wife, Ingrid, of North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Robert Schluben, of Kansas; and seven nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 10:00 AM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until time of service. Interment will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2354 Grove Road, Allentown, PA 18109 or East Allen Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 4945 Nor-Bath Blvd., Northampton, PA 18067 or VNA of St. Luke’s Hospice, 1510 Valley Ctr. Pkwy, Ste 200, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
