Edward John McWilliams, Sr., 80, of Perkasie, formerly of Quakertown and Milford, Pennsylvania, passed away at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones, on Saturday morning, May 9, 2009. He was the husband of Clara (Herzog) McWilliams. They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on June 18.
Born in Palmer Township, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Everett and Charlotte (Byrom) McWilliams.
Mr. McWilliams was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served from 1946 to 1948; a portion of that time was spent in the Aleutian Islands.
Along with his wife, he had owned and operated the Hilltop Inn Restaurant and Motel in Milford, Pike County, Pennsylvania, for many years. Prior to that, Ed was self-employed with his own painting and wallpapering business.
A member of the American Legion Wallace Willard Keller Post 242, Quakertown, Mr. McWilliams had previously been active with the American Legion Marsch-Kellogg Post 139 in Milford.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Edward J. McWilliams, Jr., and his wife, Pamela, of Perkasie; two granddaughters: Hannah and Rebecca McWilliams, of Perkasie; three sisters: Theodora Pavey, of Florida; Susan Jennings, of Arkansas; and Virginia Steeber, of Virginia; a brother, Lawrence McWilliams, of Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
