Clara H. McWilliams, 90, of Perkasie, formerly of Quakertown and Milford (Pike County), Pennsylvania, passed away in Phoebe Richland Health Care Center, Richlandtown, on Saturday, December 10, 2011. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. McWilliams, Sr., for 53 years before his death in 2009.
Born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Sophie (Wieczorek) Herzog. Having moved to Ferndale (Cambria County), Pennsylvania, she survived the Johnstown St. Patrick’s Day Flood of March 1936. She was a 1939 graduate of Ferndale High School.
Along with her husband, she had owned and operated the Hilltop Inn Restaurant and Motel, in Milford, for many years, primarily serving as a bookkeeper. Prior to that, she served as bookkeeper for her husband’s painting and wallpapering business in Newark and Westfield, New Jersey, as well as office manager for the O’Connor Insurance Agency in Newark.
Clara was an extremely devoted wife and mother, always putting family needs ahead of her own. She constantly offered support to family and friends alike, and turned her back on no one.
She is survived by her son, Edward J. McWilliams, Jr., and his wife, Pamela, of Perkasie; two granddaughters: Hannah and Rebecca McWilliams, of Perkasie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Herzog and Lucy McCauliff; and a brother, Frederick Herzog.
Services and interment will be announced at a later date.
