Richard J. McCormick, of Sellersville, formerly of Philadelphia and Shenandoah, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014, in Abington Hospice at Warminster. He was 93.
He was the beloved husband of Ethel L. (Trexler) McCormick for 65 years.
Born in Shenandoah, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Phillips) McCormick. He was a 1939 graduate of Mahanoy Township High School.
Mr. McCormick was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II in the European and African Theaters with the 96th Fighter Squadron, 82nd Fighter Group. He was the recipient of three Bronze Stars.
Following his return from the military, in 1949 he established a television repair service in Shenandoah, later relocating to Philadelphia. Afterward, he was employed for many years as a high voltage tester and quality assurance worker with the former ITE, of Colmar.
Richard was a long-time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville, where he had served as an usher.
He was an avid fresh-water fisherman. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McCormick is survived by his six children: Elizabeth A. McMahon, and her husband, Raymond, of Oreland; Richard J. McCormick, of McLean, Virginia; Thomas J. McCormick, and his wife, Marie, of Milford; William F. McCormick, of Allentown; Patrick J. McCormick and his wife, Rebecca, of Telford; Sean Q. McCormick, and his wife, Joyce, of Mohnton; nine grandchildren: Amy, Jennifer, Adam, Nicholas, Angela, Billy, Colin, Sarah, Logan; one step-granddaughter, Jessica; four great- grandchildren: Matthew, Raymond, Julianne, Connor; one step-great-grandson, Evan; two sisters: Betty Dunleavy, of Philadelphia and Shirley Carr, of Oakdale; and a half-brother, George McCormick, of West Chester.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 10, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 9 – 10:45 a.m.
Interment with full military honors will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 14, in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abington Hospice at Warminster, 225 Newtown Road, Warminster, PA 18974.
