Gertrude McCaffrey, 82, a resident of East Rockhill Township since 1988, formerly of the Bustleton section of Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, at Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. She was the beloved wife of Joseph McCaffrey for 59 years.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Alessi) Colletti.
She was a graduate of Frankford High School, Philadelphia.
Mrs. McCaffrey was employed in the billing department of Bell Telephone, then in quality control for Philco Ford, all in Philadelphia. She later was employed for fifteen years as a custodian with the Philadelphia School District, retiring in 1989. After her retirement, she worked part-time for eight years as a cook for the Seaside Home, Cape May, NJ.
She was a member of Christ Community Bible Church of Upper Bucks, Perkasie.
Gertrude possessed a green thumb, enjoying gardening. Also a wonderful cook, she found her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons: James and his wife, Karen, Quakertown; David and his wife, Amanda, Pompano Beach, FL; five grandchildren: Ben McCaffrey and his partner, Jessica Alger, East Rockhill; Samantha McCaffrey and her partner, Pete Messina, Perkasie; Stephanie McCaffrey, Marlton, NJ; Peri Kay Havekost, Virginia; and Chad Campbell, Maryland; and five great-grandchildren: Melissa McCaffrey, Lillian McCaffrey, Jalen Messina, Syndi Daren Alexander, and Paxton David Havekost
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Colletti and Andrew Colletti, and one sister, Angela Puglia.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 6, at 11:00 AM in Christ Community Bible Church of Upper Bucks, 1830 Ridge Road, Perkasie, PA 18944.
Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
