Harry W. Mattern, of Perkasie, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the beloved husband of Janet (Hamill) Mattern for 7 1/2 years. He was 63.
Born in Rockingham (Somerset County), he was the son of the late Kenneth and Mary (Schwalm) Mattern. He was a 1967 graduate of Berlin-Brothersvalley High School.
Harry had served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
He had been employed for over 43 years with Sommer Maid Creamery, Plumsteadville, and was currently the vice president / general manager of the company.
Harry was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Sellersville. He was also a member of the Sellersville American Legion Nase-Kraft Post No. 255 and the Sellersville Moose.
An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Mr. Mattern also enjoyed collecting artifacts. He especially loved his cabin in Somerset County. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his beloved family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Eric W. Mattern and his wife, Carolyn A., of Pennsburg; Erin E. Maxymillian and her husband, Andrew C., of Gilbertsville; Julia A. West, of Philadelphia; and Paula K. West, of Perkasie; a granddaughter, Makenna Rose Maxymillian; and a grandson, Harrison Joseph Maxymillian; two brothers: his twin, Kenneth Mattern, and his wife, Laurie, of Galloway Township, New Jersey; and Jim Mattern and his wife, Terry, of Mannington, West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cyri C. (Alder) Mattern.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 am on Friday, May 18, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Friends may call Friday morning at the funeral home from 10 am until time of service. Interment will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grand View Hospital ICCU, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville, PA 18960.
