Frederick Cooke Mathis

May 11, 1930 — September 14, 2008

Frederick Cooke Mathis, 78, of Murrells Inlet, SC, formerly a long- time resident of Perkasie, passed away Sunday, September 14. He was the husband of Ella Louise “Lu-Lu” (Ewing) Kling Mathis, to whom he was married for 35 years.

Born in Auburn, NJ, he was the son of the late Edward and Emma (Pfaupz) Mathis.

Mr. Mathis was a graduate of Nockamixon High School, Revere.

He had served in the Army National Guard, Sellersville.

Fred was employed at U. S. Gauge Division, Ametek Inc., Sellersville for 35 years, retiring as an expeditor in 1993.

He was a member of the Order of the Moose, in both Sellersville and South Carolina.

During his retirement, Fred enjoyed fishing, hunting and games at Great Swamp Fish and Game, Quakertown. He also enjoyed visiting his sons, Eddie and Dave, at their place of business.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: David Kling and his wife, Deborah, Coopersburg; Frederick “Rick” Mathis, Colmar; Michael Mathis and his wife, Susan, Canton, PA; two daughters ; Louise Sharrer and her husband, William, Surfside Beach, SC; .Lisa Goetz and her husband, Joseph, Timmonsville, SC.; 19 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren and 3 great - great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Joan; brother and sister-in-law, William and Cathy Mathis; son, Edward J. Kling; and two granddaughters, Sonja Sharrer and Jessica Mathis.

His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday morning, October 18 at 11:00 AM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville. Services will be conducted by a family friend, the Rev. Richard Lewis of Des Moines, Iowa. Family and friends may call at the funeral home, Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service. Interment will follow in Springfield Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Coopersburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations in Mr. Mathis’ name be made to the Disabled American Veterans at DAV Memorial Program, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
