Mary Jane "Penny" (Fertsch) Maddox

October 20, 1943 — August 4, 2011

Mary Jane "Penny" Maddox, 67, of Quakertown, formerly a 31-year resident of Sellersville, passed away Thursday morning, August 4, 2011, in St. Luke’s Quakertown Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Emerson Maddox for 30 years.

Born in Chestnut Hill, she was the daughter of the late Frank T. and Grace E. (Beahm) Fertsch.

Mrs. Maddox had served as a police officer with the Hatfield Police Department. She was then a case worker for many years at the Pearl Buck Foundation, Hilltown, before working at LifePath, Sellersville, where she spent many years in public relations.

Along with her husband, Penny helped to establish the Sellersville Town Watch Program. She was the recipient of the McGruff Crime Dog Award from the Sellersville Police.

Very active in her community, Penny was a member of the Perkasie Fire Police and the Perkasie Volunteer Fire Company and was a past president of the Silverdale Volunteer Fire Company, where she had served as a lieutenant with the Fire Police.

A certified EMT, Penny was a volunteer with the Perkasie Ambulance and had been a past president of the Pennridge Music Association.

She was a long-time member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Perkasie.

In her spare time, Penny enjoyed making crafts, especially wreaths.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Michelle Erdman, of Perkasie; and Lori Brunk, and her husband, Ryan, of Quakertown; and five grandchildren: Nathan, and his wife, Kate; Joshua; Kendra; Christopher; and Alexis.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at 1:30 PM in St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, 110 North Sixth Street, Perkasie, PA 18944. Family and friends may call at the church Tuesday from 12 Noon until time of service.

Interment will follow in Sellersville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Penny’s name to the American Cancer Society, 700 Horizon Circle, Suite 201, Chalfont, PA 18914.
