Emerson “Matt” Maddox, 79, of Quakertown, formerly a long-time resident of Sellersville, passed away after a long battle with cancer Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Mary Jane “Penny” (Fertsch) Maddox for 30 years until her death in 2011.
Born in Richland Township, he was a son of the late Charles L. and Claudine G. (Sherwood) Maddox.
Matt was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He later served in the Army Reserves until 1961.
He had been employed as an in-ground pool contractor for many years by several local pool manufacturers.
Along with his wife, Mr. Maddox had helped to establish the Sellersville Town Watch Program. Matt was also a member of the American Legion Nase-Kraft Post No. 255, Sellersville.
He enjoyed collecting antiques and coins. He also liked nothing better than a quiet evening at home watching his favorite TV programs.
Matt is survived by his two sons, two daughters, two step-daughters, several grandchildren and step-grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
A calling hour will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2012, in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Graveside services with military honors will immediately follow in Sellersville Cemetery.
