Betty (Kissel) Lucas

October 1, 1927 — January 23, 2008

Betty Lucas, 80, a longtime resident of Sellersville, joined the Church triumphant early Wednesday morning, January 23 at her residence in Neshaminy Manor, Doylestown Township. She was the beloved wife of Robert S. Lucas, who died February 16, 1981.

Born in Lansdale, she was a daughter of the late Cline and Mary Elvie (Blough) Kissel. She was a 1945 graduate of Hilltown High School.

Mrs. Lucas had been employed as a presser at several local clothing factories, including the former H-F Manufacturing and Royal Pants, both of Perkasie. She later retired from AG Pants in Perkasie.

Betty was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 32 Auxiliary and a member of Women of the Moose, both of Lansdale.

She was a longtime member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, (Almont), Sellersville, where she had served on various committees, including Worship and Music, the Altar Guild, Kitchen, Fellowship, Social Ministry, and Evangelism.

Betty enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, walking, and gardening. She loved her dogs and cats. Her greatest joy was to be with her beloved family.

Mrs. Lucas is survived by three daughters: Virginia Shoemaker and her husband, Jeffrey, Telford; Susan Snyder, Souderton; Paula Neupauer, Doylestown; son: Steven R. Lucas, Erie; a stepdaughter: Pat Marshall, Staunton, VA; seven grandchildren: Pam, C. Richard, W. John, Andy, Marissa, John G., Emily; five great-grandchildren: Nicole, Michael, Katelyn, Joy, Charles Joseph III; and a sister: Martha Snyder and her husband, George, Doylestown.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Richard Scott Lucas, who died May 20, 1955; a step-daughter; two sisters: Blanche Vaneman and Mildred Huey; and two brothers: Kennard and Mervin Kissel.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday morning, January 28, at 11:00 AM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville. Family and friends may call Monday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Interment in Jerusalem Union Cemetery (Almont), Sellersville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 733 Ridge Road, Sellersville, PA 18960.
