Louis J. Lokay

April 10, 1916 — July 14, 2008

Louis J. Lokay, 92, a long-time resident of Bedminster, passed away Monday, July 14 in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the beloved husband of Katherine “Dolly” (Geisel) Lokay for 52 years.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late John and Agnes (Tutka) Lokay.

Mr. Lokay was a 1935 graduate of Sell-Perk High School. He then completed a program at Bock Technical Institute, Philadelphia for engineering tool and die.

He was employed as a foreman at General Machine Products, Philadelphia for several years.

Mr. Lokay was a US Army veteran, having served during World War II with the 39th Infantry Regiment as a staff sergeant in the European Theater of Operations. Because Louis was fluent in Polish, he was involved with the transport of Polish prisoners of war back to Poland at the conclusion of the war.

Upon his return World War II, he founded Lokay Excavating Company, Perkasie, which he ran successfully for 30 years with the help of his brother Alex. He also assisted his wife with the operation and management of the Elephant Hotel Store and Restaurant, Bedminster.

He had been a long-time member of St. Peter’s (Tohickon) United Church of Christ, Weisel.

Mr. Lokay had been a member of the Keelersville Club, Perkasie.

He enjoyed music, playing the harmonica, accordion, and “bones”, while his wife accompanied him on guitar. He loved the outdoors, particularly hunting, fishing and crabbing with his sons. In later years he especially enjoyed feeding and watching birds.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lokay is survived by two sons: Kevin, Chestnut Hill; Craig, Souderton ; two sisters: Virginia Gross and her husband, Ray, Sellersville; and Caroline Musselman, Perkasie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers: John, Leonard, Stanley, Joseph, Alexander; and three sisters: Stella Bayer, Pauline Veneziale and Agnes Romig.

His Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 21 at 11:30 AM in St. Peter’s (Tohickon) United Church of Christ, 1050 Old Bethlehem Road, (Weisel) Perkasie. Family and friends may call Sunday evening, July 20 from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville and again on Monday morning at the church beginning at 10:30 AM until time of service. Entombment will be in Tohickon Union Cemetery, Weisel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Tohickon United Church of Christ, 1050 Old Bethlehem Road, Perkasie, PA 18944.
