Mary Elizabeth Larzelere, 84, formerly of Fountainville, died Thursday afternoon, February 14, in the special care unit of St. Andrew’s North in Boca Raton, Florida, where she had lived since 2000. She was the beloved wife of the late Benjamin Larzelere, Jr., who died in 2001.
Born in Abington Township, she was the daughter of the late Harry James and Eva Belle (Worthington) Grabert.
She was baptized in and grew up attending St. Luke Lutheran Church, Dublin, where she was married on July 14, 1945. She and her husband Ben were faithful members of the parish until they moved to Florida in June, 2000.
She and Ben worked the former Grabert’s Truck Farm, along with her parents. It was a well-known place where one could purchase flower and vegetable plants from the greenhouses and produce from the fields. Mary and her husband retired in the late 1990’s.
Mary had been employed as an elementary school music teacher for Central Bucks School District for many years until retirement in 1985. She was a member of the Eastern Star (Doylestown Chapter #327), taking her turn as Worthy Matron in the 1960’s.
In Boca Raton, she joined Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She also became involved in many activities in Stratford Court, the retirement community where she lived. Mary participated in the Chorus and truly had the “voice of an angel.”
She is survived by her son, The Rev. Benjamin Larzelere, and his wife, Beverly Anne (Steeley), of Santa Fe, New Mexico; daughter, Mary Lynnette “Lynne” Getch and her husband, Skip of Boca Raton, Florida. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her dear grandson, Bartholomew August Larzelere, who died in 2003.
Mary was a wonderful mother, memorable music teacher, choir director, and angelic singer extraordinaire.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 28 (time to be announced) in St. Luke Lutheran Church, Dublin. Interment will be in St. Luke's Union Cemetery, Dublin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to Hospice by the Sea, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486.
