Henry J. Kuhn

Henry J. Kuhn, 86, an eight-year resident of the Rockhill Mennonite Community, West Rockhill Township, formerly of Huntingdon Valley, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, November 16. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Sell) Kuhn for 64 years.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Henry Louis and Rose (Schwab) Kuhn. He was a 1941 graduate of Northeast High School, Philadelphia.

Following high school, Henry attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, in Kings Point, NY, graduating in 1944. He served as an ensign in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

Instructed by his father, Mr. Kuhn became a successful self-employed building contractor in new home construction, re-modeling, and building renovations.

A former active member of the Memorial Baptist Church, Huntingdon Valley, Mr. Kuhn was a church trustee, a Sunday School superintendent, an elder, and on multiple committees. He was also instrumental in the construction of the church’s new building.

Henry was a former Grand Master of the Richmond Lodge No. 230 Free and Accepted Masons, Philadelphia.

Mr. Kuhn was also involved in many community activities. These included helping to construct sets and stages for the high school theater group and acting as a Cub Scout leader.

With his wife, Henry enjoyed flea marketing and, most especially, ballroom dancing. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. In his younger years, he was an avid small game hunter.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Kuhn is survived by his son, Scott Kuhn, and his wife, Deborah, of Perkasie; his daughter, Robin Connor, and her husband, Michael, of Huntingdon Valley; three grandchildren, Justin, Michelle, and Lisa Kuhn; and a sister, Betty Gehlert, and her husband, Edwin, of Roanoke, VA.

His Memorial Service will be held Friday morning, December 10, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Rockhill Mennonite Community, 3250 State Road, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call at the Chapel on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rockhill Mennonite Community, c/o The Samaritan Purse, at the above address or to the charity of one’s choice.
