Harold G. Kreider

Harold Glen Kreider, of Sellersville, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022, at his residence. He was 97.

He shared nearly 76 years of marriage with Roberta (Showalter) Kreider after their wedding in May 1946.

Born to John F. and Mattie (Hinkle) Kreider in Hannibal, Missouri, Harold was the eldest of ten children and grew up on the family farm in Palmyra, Missouri.

Harold served in the Civilian Public Service, stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Gulfport, Mississippi. He attended Hesston College in Hesston, Kansas and later graduated from Goshen College and Goshen Biblical Seminary, Goshen, Indiana.

Harold served as pastor at Hannibal Mission Church, in Missouri, and Osceola Mennonite Church, in Indiana. He was part of the ministerial teams at Walnut Hill Mennonite, Goshen, IN and Perkasie Mennonite, Perkasie, PA.

In more recent years, Harold and Roberta were active in LGBT and church concerns.

Harold worked in construction in various locations. Over the years, he had built or remodeled several of the family’s homes. He stayed connected to his farming roots, enjoying gardening into his later years. Having lived through the farming transition from horses to tractors, he developed a hobby collection of antique model tractors, especially those familiar to his childhood years.

In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by their two daughters and their spouses: Evelyn (Nelson Martin), and Bonita (Dean Nussbaum); five grandchildren and their spouses: Luke Martin (Mandy Garber), Jon Aaron Martin (Betsy Garber), Anika Martin (Tim Mullen), Ben Nussbaum (Abby Gillespie), and Zak Nussbaum (Molly Simons-Kimball); six great-grandchildren: Lela and Rylie Martin, Collin and Avery Martin, Brayden Mullen, and Jack Nussbaum.

He is also survived by several siblings and their spouses: John T. Kreider (Betty), Anna Margaret (Al Zook), Nelson Kreider, Wendell Kreider (Jan Nofziger), Carol (Doug Kearbey), and Hazel (Monroe Kauffman); and a brother-in-law, Alan Cliburn.

Mr. Kreider was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Perry, and her husband, Bill; a granddaughter, Liza Martin; and siblings: Verna Graybill and her husband, Paul, Miriam Umble and her husband, Clair, Kathryn Cliburn; and two sisters-in-law: Verlene Knepp Kreider and Lois Mast Kreider.

Harold touched many lives and modeled a life of faith and service. In keeping with that spirit and per his wishes, his body has been donated to science.
