Priscilla Schlenker Kinney, 67, of Fleetwood, formerly of Perkasie, died Thursday, April 15, at home, after a 23 year battle with breast cancer. She was the beloved wife of the Rev. Dr. George G. Kinney for 45 years.
Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Wallace) Schlenker, Topton, and the late Rev. Luther F. Schlenker. Priscilla was a 1960 graduate of Pennridge High School and a 1964 graduate of Muhlenberg College.
Mrs. Kinney had a lifelong commitment to the mission of the Lutheran Church. She served from 2001-2009 as the Vice President of Northeastern PA Synod/ELCA, where she chaired Synod Council. She was on the Board of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, where she chaired the Trustees Committee.
Priscilla was an advocate for the elderly and had an extensive career in geriatric social work and nursing home administration. She had most recently been the Director of Residential Services at the Lutheran Home at Topton.
Mrs. Kinney was an active member of Friedens Lutheran Church, Oley.
An impassioned activist, she had served on various community boards and agencies, including Program Director of Community of Hope, Atlanta, GA; and the Board of Education in Plymouth, CT. Music fed Priscilla’s soul. She was a past president of the Worcester Chorus, Worcester, MA, where she had participated in five international concert tours, and was a current member of the Reading Choral Society.
She loved to travel and had many friends worldwide, visiting 32 countries and 49 states. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family at their cottage in Mt. Gretna.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her two daughters: Anne Dacey, Esq., and her husband, the Rev. Dr. Rick Dacey, Sydney, Australia; and Katherine Lubenesky, and her husband, John Lubenesky, Esq., New York, NY; five grandchildren: Erin, Claire, Lachlan, Cooper and Carter; two sisters: Christina Kioko and her husband, Joe Kioko, Nairobi, Kenya; Martha Knouss, wife of the late Rear Admiral Robert Knouss, Adelphi, MD; a brother, James Schlenker, and his wife, Linda (Moerkirk) Schlenker, Fayetteville, NC.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday morning, April 19, at 11:00 AM in the Egner Chapel of Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew Street, Allentown, PA. The family will receive friends Sunday, April 18, from 4 PM until 7 PM at Friedens Lutheran Church, 1076 Memorial Highway (Rte. 73), Oley, PA 19547.
Interment in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown, will be held privately.
