Ray C. Kaufman, 90, of Telford, formerly of Sellersville and Millsboro, Delaware, passed away at his residence in the Lutheran Community at Telford on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.
He was the devoted husband of the late Carol E. (Walck) Kaufman for 55 years until her death in 2011.
Born in Quakertown, he was the son of the late Russell N. and Cora M. (Stettler) Kaufman.
Mr. Kaufman was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy.
As a young man, Ray was a co-owner of the former Haney’s Pig Stand, a specialty barbecue diner, in Quakertown. Later, he was employed for many years as a supervisory foreman in the central office of the former Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania. Also, after taking several training classes, he worked for H & R Block and volunteered with an IRS program to aid senior citizens with their tax preparation.
He was a long-time member of St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville, where he had been on the Stewardship Committee for many years.
Mr. Kaufman had also served on the Sellersville Planning Commission. Once a Boy Scout himself, Ray later volunteered as a Scout leader for the Explorers.
Family camping trips to Delaware and northeastern Pennsylvania and visits to state parks were always popular getaways. An avid fisherman, Ray had owned a pontoon boat for crabbing and clamming, and he had enjoyed hunting as well.
Ray’s more quiet pursuits included playing Pinochle and doing crossword puzzles, although his family remembers that he would show no mercy when playing pool.
Time spent with his wife and children brought Ray his greatest joy.
He is survived by two daughters: Lisa A. Kaufman, of Walnutport, and Brenda K. Kolb, and her husband, Edward, of Mansfield; one son, Tom R. Kaufman and his fiancée, Karen Aguero, of Northampton; and four grandchildren: Scott R. Lewis, Jr.; Brian E. Kolb; Douglas A. Kolb and his wife, Hillary; and Emily M. Kaufman.
In addition to his wife, Ray was preceded in death by his siblings, Irving and Bruce Kaufman, and Perma Davis.
His funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960, where a visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until time of service.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Trinity Great Swamp United Church of Christ Cemetery, Spinnerstown.
