John J. Kachline, Jr., 70, of Hilltown Township, passed away suddenly surrounded by his loving family, Saturday morning, July 10, in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Salisbury Township. He was the beloved husband of Alice E. (Trigg) Kachline for 17 years.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late John J. and Charlotte (Edelman) Kachline.
John was a 1967 graduate of Ohio University with a degree in mechanical engineering. A licensed Professional Engineer, he was employed mostly in the chemical industry. After retirement, he was employed part-time as a steward with the Heritage Conservancy, Doylestown.
He was a long-time member of the Hilltown Civic Association. John was active with the Republican Party and had worked at the polls. He was also a charter member of the former Friends of Hilltown.
He loved to play golf and go camping. A talented and passionate baseball player, John was captain of his high school team and played on the Ohio University baseball team. He continued to play baseball and softball up until his later years. He and his wife and family enjoyed traveling with their RV club, the Blue Mountain Wanderers. Family was most important to John as he loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: John J. Kachline, III, and his wife, Christine, of Wooster, Ohio; Jeffrey L. Kachline, and his wife, Shannon, of Highland Heights, Ohio; and Cheryl A. Haddon, and her husband, Timothy, of Highland Heights; four step-children: Deborah J. Godshall, and her husband, Robert, of Alburtis; Kathleen L. Scheetz, and her husband, Frederick, of North Wales; Bruce E. Camburn, and his wife, Mary Lou, of Riegelsville; and Wayne M. Camburn, and his wife, Julie, of Quakertown; fifteen grandchildren: J.J., IV; Amy; Eric; Mason; Hailey; Jenna; Stephen; Samantha; Seth; Zane; Zach; Corey; Brynne; Evan; and Sierra; three great-grandchildren: Chase; Carson; and Cloey; two sisters: Lynne Bachman of Easton; and Brenda Dennis, and her husband, Dan, of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother, Craig Kachline, and his wife, Cindy, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and his dog, "Gizmo."
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Camburn.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 15, at 11 AM in the Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, 87 North Main Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of service.
Interment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Prospectville.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to the Hilltown Civic Association Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 118, Hilltown, PA 18927 or to the Pennridge Community Senior Center, 146 East Main Street, Perkasie, PA 18944.
