Evelyn S. Hollenbach, 94, of Telford, formerly of Perkasie, passed away Wednesday morning, July 13, 2011, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. She was the beloved wife of the late Willis B. "Willie" Hollenbach for 68 years, until his death in September 2010.
Born on November 8, 1916, in Sellersville, she was a daughter of the late John Howard and Clara Jane (Crouthamel) Shelly.
Evelyn was a 1934 graduate of Sell-Perk High School.
From 1935 to 1947, she had been employed by Harleysville Mutual Insurance Company. The following year, she began to work as a secretary and automobile insurance underwriter for Alvin A. Clemens Insurance & Real Estate, Harleysville, until her retirement in 1981.
Mrs. Hollenbach also was employed as the parish secretary of St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sellersville, from 1945 to 1950. A devout Lutheran and a lifelong member of St. Michael’s, Evelyn volunteered as a Sunday School teacher for about 25 years, served as a lay lector and president of the Lutheran Church Women, and, until 1996, sang in the choir for approximately 48 years.
She was a long-time resident of Perkasie until moving with her husband to the Lutheran Community at Telford in 2001.
In her spare time, Evelyn enjoyed reading, playing pinochle, completing daily newspaper crossword puzzles, doing counted cross-stitch, golfing, and watching the Phillies on television.
She is survived by a sister, Eleanor Pannepacker, of Telford; and a brother, James Shelly, of Perkasie. She will also be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sisters: Blanche Schultze and Mary Alderfer; and brothers: Ralph, Paul, Richard, Warren, George, and Robert Shelly.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 11:00 AM in St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25 East Church Street, Sellersville, PA 18960. Family and friends may call at the church Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Interment will follow in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Perkasie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s name to St. Michael’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at the address above or to the Lutheran Community at Telford, 235 North Washington Street, Telford, PA 18969.
