Charles R. "Bud" Hollenbach

Charles R. “Bud” Hollenbach, of Sellersville, formerly a long-time resident of Perkasie, went Home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, October 18, in Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 89.

He was the beloved husband of Margaret “Maggie” (Honsel) Hollenbach for 62 years.

Born in Allentown, Bud was the son of the late Charles R. and Florence (Schleicher) Hollenbach. He was a 1943 graduate of Allentown High School, where he had played football.

Mr. Hollenbach was a U. S. Army veteran, having proudly served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater at the end of World War II.

Following his return, Bud received his Bachelor degree in Education from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College, where he had played football before injuries affected his playing career. He would later earn his Masters degree at Lehigh University.

In 1952, Mr. Hollenbach began his career as a physical education and health teacher in the Pennridge School District, retiring in 1985. A devoted, supportive teacher, he was highly regarded by his students. As an offensive backfield coach for the Rams football team for 25 years, Bud earned the deep respect of generations of players. Through the years, he had also served as an assistant tennis and basketball coach and as head cheerleading coach.

A member of the Brethren in Christ Church, Souderton, Mr. Hollenbach was a lay leader, who founded a Saturday morning men’s group and taught Sunday school. Previously, he had taught Sunday school at First United Methodist Church, Perkasie.

Active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Bud was renowned as a public speaker throughout the community. He had also been a member of the former Kiwanis Club, Souderton.

In 2012 Bud was honored with induction into the Pennridge-Quakertown Area Athletic Hall of Fame.

Bud was an avid fly fisherman. He also enjoyed golfing and the Philadelphia Phillies. While a fan of all football, his love for the Pennridge Rams was unsurpassed.

A man of great faith, he lived a well-spent life of unerring devotion to his family, his work, his community, and his country.

In addition to his wife, Bud is survived by his two sons: Jeff Hollenbach and his wife, Libby, of Perkasie; Mark Hollenbach and his wife, Debbie, of Mesa, AZ; six grandchildren: Sarah Keating and her husband, Mitch, of Perkasie; Sam Hollenbach and his wife, Anne, of Ellicott City, MD; Dave Hollenbach, of Perkasie; Erin Hollenbach, of Mesa, AZ; Anna Balasavage and her husband, Matt, of Westminster, MD; Christina Hollenbach, of Mesa, AZ; and four great-grandchildren: Caleb, Noah, Micah, and Janie Keating, all of Perkasie.

He is also survived by two brothers, Harold Hollenbach and his wife, Louise, of Hershey; Thomas Hollenbach and his wife, Claudia, of Allentown; and a brother-in-law, Stanley Wieder, of Sellersville.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Wieder.

His funeral service will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, at Calvary Church, 820 Rte. 113, Souderton, PA 18964, where a visitation will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

A private burial with full military honors will be conducted in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
